The GT-SS has a smaller teardrop 15-liter tank with a Monza style cap while the Akita uses a rectangular 17-liter fuel tank.īoth modest yet visually dramatic bikes are quite good and handle reasonably well but I am concerned that the retail prices are on the high side especially given their dynamic abilities and the limitation of not being able to legally operate them on the highways. I preferred the contrasting brown seat on the Akita. The diamond-stitch seat of the GT-SS matches the diamond pattern grips. The exhausts look and sound a little different but have no impact on engine power. The Akita 250 uses the same sized tube-type 120/90R18 65P Timsun knobby tires mounted on combination stainless steel spokes on black aluminum rims, while the GT-SS uses a mixed set of street-biased Timsun rubber with a slightly wider rear 130/80R18 tire and 120/90R18 front tires on unpainted spoked aluminum wheels. The Mutt CNC machined fork cap, head stem nut, oil filler cap, valve covers, aluminum sump guard and more are very tasteful details on both bikes. The all-black frames are accompanied by spoked wheels, aluminum mudguards with tasteful handmade brushed TIG welded stainless steel brackets, aluminum LED tail light, LED indicators, Renthal handlebars with unique grips per model, a halogen headlight with protective grille and a single round instrument gauge with an analog tachometer and digital screen that displays ABS, speed, gear, trip, and fuel indicators. Both simple air-cooled thumpers use electronic fuel injection and a 5-speed manual transmission. The two supplied engines are licensed old-school Suzuki GN 125 and 250 powerplants (Suzuki produced the engine from 1982 to roughly 1997) for optimal reliability. The Fat Sabbath and FSR models have the second lowest seat heights at 810 mm while the rest of the range (GT-SS, Mastiff, Akita, and Hilts) hover at 830 mm.
